Everyone knows the popular story about David and Goliath, but do you really realize the meaning of this story. This story is about a small shepherd boy named David. He was the youngest in his family and was only around the age of 15 when he became so famous for defeating Goliath.
No one believed that David stood a chance against the 9 foot giant, Goliath. This Philistine could kill any one and no one dared to stand up against him – until David. David stood up and said that he would defeat him. Can you imagine what everyone was thinking? How could this small boy stand a chance? Because of David’s faith, he stood up against Goliath. He flung one stone that landed directly in the center of the giant’s forehead. The giant fell to the ground, face first.
At that point, I am sure that the crowds were stunned, surprised, amazed, etc. But David didn’t stop there. He ran without hesitation directly to the giant. He took the giant’s sword and cut off his head.
The point of this story is quite simple. David believed that God was on his side. He knew that if he put his complete trust in God, that God would not let him down. David did not hesitate, nor was he scared. He faced the giant as if it were a small child.
I think we can all learn a lesson from this story. If we were to put our faith in God, and really believe and trust God, couldn’t we face all of the giants in our lives? I think so; however, it takes complete faith and trust.
