God Bless Sarah Palin!
Sarah PalinGod Bless Sarah Palin!
NOT!
The new queen of social media has taken it upon herself to announce to the world that the next threat to humanity as a whole is a planned mosque near Ground Zero. On her Twitter account, Sarah Palin encourages her multitudes of followers to "reject it in interest of healing" because the Mosque is "UNNECESSARY".
Sarah Palin may be adept at Twitter and Tweeting, and while I do find these qualities admirable, I take offense at her trying to impede the progress of a house of worship. Aren't Muslims in need of healing as well? And, aren't Mosques places for Muslims to seek out spiritual healing? Or am I wrong? Am I confused about this particular issue because I don't happen to be a Christian?
Were the Muslims in Manhattan less impacted by 9-11 than the rest of the community? I would argue that like the majority of the Muslims in the country, those living near Ground Zero were more harassed as a result of ignorance, racism, and the continued racial profiling that goes on to this very day. I can't imagine what it would have been like to live in New York City as a Muslim at that time of suspicion and hatred.
If Sarah Palin and those like her were truthfully interested in the process of healing, they would have absolutely ZERO objection to a Mosque in the neighborhood. Sarah's Tweet is encouraging hatred and bigotry and is doing the exact opposite of its intended purpose- she is making sure that racism continues and that Americans who don't fit her small-town mold and her bigoted mind will continue to be discriminated against by reminding people to feel hatred for people solely based on their religion.
Sarah Palin is not the only one opposed to the project, but has a large following of loyal fans who continue to listen to her words without thinking about their significance.
