Finally, today the current Pope stopped blaming others, the media, and in a round-about-way, the victims for the child sex abuse scandal in the Catholic church. He said that the Church';s own sins are to blame for the sex scandal and called for "profound purification."
Pope Benedict said, "the Catholic church has always been tormented by problems of its own making — a tendency that is being witnessed today 'in a truly terrifying way.' The church needs to profoundly relearn penitence, accept purification, learn forgiveness, but also justice."
The Pope and the Vatican are stepping back from their claim that the Church was the victim of a campaign by the media, and by abortion rights and pro-gay marriage groups to discredit the Church leadership. Pope Benedict said, "The greatest persecution of the church doesn't come from enemies on the outside but is born from the sins within the church."
Well, hopefully that means he is ready to give the boot to priests and to Church officials, including himself, who have not done their duty to protect young children. Some how, I doubt it.
