It can be really difficult for me to make time to read the Bible each day. In fact, lately I haven’t placed this as a priority in my life, and it shows.
When I don’t take the time to get into God’s Word, my life suffers. I can feel it. I can feel the lack of His presence in my daily tasks, and I find myself relying on me instead of relying on Him. On the other hand, when I read the Word each day, I can feel God closer to me. I can sense that the decisions I make involve Him, and not me. I tend to want to please Him more, because I am closer to Him.
There is something to be said about this. Reading the Bible opens up my heart and mind, and leaves me longing to feel Him even more. It leaves me longing to try to do the right thing in all situations and aspects of my life. I realize too, that it doesn’t take reading the Bible for hours each day to accomplish this. 20 or 30 minutes works, but even 5 minutes can make the difference.
When I’m faced with thoughts or a decision to make, reading the Bible opens up answers for me. Sometimes I read something, and later that day or week, I think about a particular verse that I had read. It reminds me what to do, and what God expects of me.
It is important for all Christians to read the Bible daily. It brings us closer to God, helps us lead better lives, and it makes life seem so much more fulfilling.
