Do not be anxious

Do not be anxious

Ask God to exchange your anxiety for his peace

Philippians 4:6-7 of the English Standard Version says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” These words were written by Paul, a servant of God and they are words that I cling to.

I am known to be an anxious person – a worrier. I know that worrying is a sin, but I have trouble stopping myself. These verses often help them though, and they can help you too. The Bible strictly says not to worry or be anxious about anything. But, how do we take these worries and get rid of them? These verses answer that question. We pray to God to accomplish this. We plead with God about them, and then we stick to the promises God makes us. If we can learn to trade our worries for the promises God gave us, we can live worry free.

One promise is listed in verse 7 of this passage where it says that, “the peace of God will guard your hearts.” This is what the feeling of anxiety lacks. It lacks peace, but people that feel anxious want peace. In fact that is the number one thing they are looking for.

Next time, you are feeling worried, remember this verse. When you pray to God about it, ask him to replace these feelings with feelings of peace. God is faithful, and he wants his people to be full of peace.
