One of the most common verses in the Bible that talks about raising children is found in Proverbs 22:6. This verse states, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”This verse for some reason always gives me hope. Raising children is very difficult, especially if you live in a home where a divorce took place. I was divorced several years ago and have recently gotten remarried. Raising my two girls has been one of the hardest things I have ever had to do, and that is why I keep this verse in mind often.
There are so many days when I just feel like giving up. These are the days when my kids are causing grief to me for some reason, and I sometimes feel like I cannot take any more. I know though that someday they will be grown up and they will no longer need me. All I can hope for is that when they grow up, they will be God-fearing adults that are responsible people.
This verse gives me the hope I need to train my children right. I am not a perfect mother, but I do like to emphasize God in every aspect of our lives. My 16-year-old daughter is at the age where she is not really into this, but I know that someday, the training I have given her may pay off. I must keep going forward, even if it seems like it is hopeless right now.
